FRICKIN CHICKEN - FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS

It's been about 18 months since may last review. I'm so bad. And so sleep deprived. We have a new leader in the clubhouse for the best chicken tenders in Northwest Arkansas. The place....Frickin Chicken. The location....just off Spring Street in the Laundry Building in the old Feltner's first location. Frickin Chicken started as a food truck off College Avenue about two years ago. They opened up a brick and mortar location just this year. When they first started it was just fried chicken and waffles and the dreaded frozen crinkle cut fries. But just recently they debuted their hand batter chicken tenders and they now have fresh cut fries!

For some odd reason they are called Wimpy Strips. There is nothing wimp about them. I got the Wimpy 4 piece Strip Combo. It came with 4 jumbo strips, waffle, and a nice amount of fresh cut fries. All for $9.25. Not bad.

The Tenders

The chef told me they were Tyson jumbo tenderloins which made me happy. :)
They were very juicy and lightly breaded with a great kick to them. He said that he dips them in egg whites for a bit and then into their seasoning. When asked about the seasoning, the only thing he would give up was that they use onion garlic powder. They were unlike anything I had tasted before and were amazing.

I then wrapped a waffle and devoured it. Delicious.

The best I've ever had. And I've had lots as you know. Even better than Raising Caine's. Words I never thought would come out of my mouth.

10 out of 10 clucks. Maybe even 10.5.

The Fries

Fresh cut. Cooked crispy and cooked right. He said they blanch them and they were cooked evenly throughout. Very good.

Grayson give them a thumbs up!

So don't wait. Get down to Frickin Chicken and try these fantastic tenders.

Apple Blossom Brewing Company - Fayetteville, AR

Apple Blossom Brewing Company. New brewery and restaurant that just opened off Zion Road in Fayetteville. Great layout. Nicely designed. Only question we had was parking. It's built in a office/shop complex which means as more offices open less parking. Customers have already been having to park around the block due to full lot already. Enough on that. Onto the tenders......
ABBC offers Tempura Chicken Fingers as appetizer. Tempura recipe is a recipe from Japan. It's basically flour, egg, water, and vegetable oil stirred until a thick batter is formed. This gives the fingers the thick coating that you will see below.

I'm not a big fan of thick batter fingers but these were not bad at all. Had some type of seasoning added to it to give it a nice flavor and some parsley on top. You get five fingers for $5.95 which is not bad these days.

The Fries

They nailed it on the fries. Fresh cut. Evenly cooked throughout and crispy. Parsley again on top and some light seasoning. Could not get enough. You got a decent amount as you can see surprisingly for only $1.95. You don't see that very often under $2. Even soft drinks were $1.95. Most places are $2.49 now. So thumbs up to Apple Blossom for those prices.

Make Your Own Homemade KFC Original Recipe Tenders

Hello strangers. I'm back after a 16 month hiatus. Just enjoying trying to be a good father to my son and and a good husband to my wife. Time flies.  I wrote 7 in 2010, 8 in 2011, and a total of one in 2012. I've missed doing these. I even have one I'm going to post that is 3 years old that I forgot to post. So you will get two this week. Going to try and write more than every 16 months going forward. :)

Remember when Kentucky Fried Chicken used to taste pretty darn good? That great original recipe that is still known world wide but just doesn't seem to be like it was back in the day? Well my wife came across someone who posted a recipe that says they found a blend that is close to the original recipe as you can get. We tried it out recently and I gotta say it's really good and very close to that taste. Here's how they turned out.........

They were fantastic. My wife says that they are the best I've ever done and taste better than most restaurants tenders that we have had. I'm blushing. I lightly breaded them and have to admit I almost doubled the amount of seasoning on all ingredients and it really made a difference between the first and second round. Would you like the recipe? Well here you go.....

1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon of All Seasoning
3/4 teaspoon pepper
1 cup flour
2 teaspoon paprika

Like I said I almost doubled the above except on the flour. Try it and give me some feedback on how your tenders turned out and what you thought.

Just for the record. 10 of 10 clucks. But I'm bias. :)

Enjoy!!

Ozark Lanes Cafe - Fayetteville, AR

I know I know. A restaurant in a bowling alley. I thought the same thing. My buddy Jason Daugherty gave me the low down on this hidden little gem. For some of you who have been on the hill since college you might remember it as Pete's Place. That late night hungover hideaway you went to after a late night on Dickson to get your grub on. Same place, different name, same cook is what I've been told.

You can get this plate of 6 giant strips and plate of fries for $7.99!

The Chicken Strips

I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. Large hand battered tenders, lightly coated batter. Very tasty. And a great bargain as I mentioned above.

They also have a great burger basket for $4.99. And I also hear they have a great breakfast.

Raising Caine's Chicken Fingers - Mobile, Alabama

I've been wanting to do a review of my favorite chicken fingers in the world for awhile now. And the reason it's been awhile is there is not one in Arkansas. The closest is in Norman, Oklahoma but why would I go where the hated Sooners live?

I discovered this place in Baton Rouge, Louisiana back in 2001. This is where it was created and had a few locations around town. I was down there for the Hogs/LSU game and there was one right off the LSU campus. "The Original" We needed some tailgate food so we asked around and this is what everybody kept pointing us to. One bite and I was hooked........

Back to 2011. Raising Caine's has blown up into a southeast chain. Robyn and I were heading to Seaside, Florida for vacation in August. We hit it up in Mobile, AL on the way down and hit it again in Hattiesburg, MS on the way back. Yeah that's right twice. That good.

I ordered "The Caniac" combo. 6 fingers, extra fries, and a giant piece of texas toast. These fingers are the most succulent, delicious, mouth-watering strips you will ever put in your mouth. Lightly battered and seasoned, fall off the strip breading, and juicy as hell. Damn I need some right now.

Got my brother and his wife hooked last summer. So much they brought a extra cooler just to stock up on some of  Cane's famous sauce.

The Fries

Regular old crinkle cut fries. :(
But they are the best crinkle cut fries I've had. Better than Ore-ida. :)

Check this place out sometime. I've eaten at their locations in Athens, GA, Lexington, KY, Mobile, AL, and Hattiesburg, MS. Norman is the closest 3.5 hours away if you want to venture into sooner land.
They are located in about every SEC school hometown. Except Arkansas. Oh well. Maybe someday. I can dream....... I may have to venture in sooner land. Damn.

Cafe Rue Orleans - Fayetteville, AR

Hello strangers! It's been two months. I've got to get better at this don't I?? I just didn't realize being a dad could be some much fun and take up my time. :) Loving every second of it.
Cafe Rue Orleans on College Avenue in Fayetteville. Great cajun food by two wonderful ladies. But they also have chicken strips so I had to give them a try. And it was worth it.

The Bourbon Strippers

Don't you love the name? Maybe something to do with Bourbon Street entertainment?? Not that I noticed that at the Sugar Bowl last year.

Look at this huge plate of food you get. 6 large tenders and a plate of fries for $16.99. Lunch price is $9.50. But man you get your money's worth at dinner. I could not finish the plate. Those fries stretched from what you see all the way underneath the strips. You won't leave hungry.

These were cooked to perfection. Very juicy inside and well seasoned on the outside with a light batter that my taste buds loved. A little cajun kick. What else would you expect?

The Fries

Fries were freaking awesome as well. Same as above with some cajun seasoning some chopped fresh parsley sprinkled on top of them. Yummy!!

Doe's Eat Place - Fayetteville, Arkansas

I'm back!!!!!!! After a 3 month hiatus. I know I know. Something about having a 5 month old leaves no time. :) Loving every minute of it!!
Alright let's get too it. Doe's Eat Place, on Dickson Street, on the hill. Yes known for their great expensive steaks. But....wait for it....they have hand battered chicken strips. Say what? Yes they do. And very good strips indeed. Order the adult portion and you get six VERY LARGE chicken strips and a ton of fries.

These are the largest strips I've ever been served and fantastic. Lightly breaded with a small amount of seasoning. Juicy and delicious. I almost couldn't finish them. The key word there being almost. :)

10 out of 10 clucks. I'm not kidding. That good.

The Fries
Fresh cut. My favorite. Very seasoned and yummy. Cooked evenly and just right.

Bonus Review:

The Biscuit Drops

Delicious breaded little drops of heaven biscuits. Mmmm...Mmmm...good. Add a little honey to them and they melt in your mouth.
